Seller Do’s & Don’ts

Hello Vintage Listings: Do's & Don'ts


  • Clothing for men and women including pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, shorts, jumpsuits, etc.
  • Accessories for men and women (belts, bags, hats, shoes, gloves, shawls, ties, watches and jewelry, etc.)
  • Items between 20-100 years old
  • Items in great condition — this means no stains, no rips or tears, no missing buttons or closures, etc. As a general rule, make sure the item can be worn as soon as the buyer receives it
  • Clean items — make sure all items are clean and do not have any excessive smells, stains, or appear dirty. If your customer can’t wear it right away, don’t list it.


  • Vintage “inspired” items (items that look vintage, but have been made in the past 20 years)
  • Antique items (items over 100 years old, or before the 1920s)
  • Non-clothing items (home decor, books, flags, linens, etc)
  • Items for children
  • Furs of cats, bears, primates, seals, leopards, tigers, ocelots, cheetahs, sea otters, or other endangered species
  • Ivory or elephant/rhinocerous skin or horns
  • Damaged items with stains, excessive discoloration, rips or tears, broken zippers, missings buttons, etc.
  • Dirty or stained items
  • Stolen items or items you cannot legally resell


  • Accurate measurements of bust, waist, hip and inseam whenever applicable
  • Fabric content whenever known
  • Photos of front, side, back, details, label, and any small imperfections
  • Mention any alterations or repairs
  • Estimate of era given as accurately as possible
  • Size based off of measurements and the Hello Vintage size chart


  • Photos in poor lighting
  • Links to other websites – you can link to your blog and social media in your seller page
  • Photos of other items not for sale (unless worn by a person or mannequin along with listed item and specified that they are not for sale)
